Make your own sugar scrub

I recently started making my own beauty products. The products you buy at the drugstore aren’t just expensive, they also contain a lot of unhealthy preservatives. No more! You’ll see very soon that a lot of scrubs, lotions, gels etc. can be easily made in your own kitchen. Let’s get cookin’!

The first of these recipes that I want to share is an easy and quick one: a sugar scrub! I've got the inspiration for this scrub at The Idea Room and I just loved it.
Here’s what you need:
  • 2 cups white granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup almond oil or coconut oil
  • Essential oil of preference
  • Food coloring
  • Little glass jar

First you want to mix up the sugar and the almond oil. You can add a little more than ¼ cup of oil, if you feel that’s needed. Once mixed, you add a few drops of essential oil, to give it a nice scent (I used lime-scented essential oil).

Then you divide the mixture into two equal parts. You add a few drops of food coloring to one of the parts and stir until the color is blended in.

For the final step, you start filling the jar. Alter between a layer of colored and non-colored mixture to create a beautiful striped scrub. Fill all the way to the top and seal your jar with the lid.

Design a cute label to place on the jar and you’re done! What a great gift, don’t you think?
Love, Laetitia
