How to: Ankle boots

How to wear ankle boots, you ask? Important question, since it's the must have shoe style this season! To show you how versatile an ankle boot can be, we've selected four completely different styles, all with their correspondent boots. Here you have some awesome fall inspiration!

As you all know, there are a whole lot of styles of ankle boots and so many styles of trousers, skirts and dresses, so it can be a bit of a sticky wicket figuring out how to style your ankle boots. Therefor, we decided we’re going to give it a shot. Here’s the dish on ankle boots.

On the one hand boots with a taller shaft generally look best with skinny trousers tucked in, while boots with a lower shaft will look better with jeans untucked or cuffed.

Leggings are truly ideal for tucking into ankle boots as it's pretty handy and you can combine them with any type of skirt or dress and even a top as long as it covers at least your lady parts (never embarrass yourself in public that way). You can also combine them with skinny jeans, if they are tight through the calf and ankle. Jeans that fit quite perfect to the ankle work best. You can even put your socks over the bottom of your trousers so they don’t ride up too much. This comes in handy when it’s a bit colder in the winter. Ankle jeans are also a nice option for this style because there’s no extra material bunching up and making the boots uncomfortable.

Next it’s also trendy when you cuff or double-roll your skinny trousers or jeans allowing a hint of the ankle to show. This look should work the best with boots with a heel or a wedge. Personally we think it’s not as lovely with flat ankle boots since they can easily make you look shorter than you actually are. So you better be careful about proportions. Sometimes they can end up on the top of the boot as your trousers settle whilst walking or moving, but even that’s okay. You can choose between a large single cuff or a narrow single cuff. It depends on the length of your trousers, how well they fit your ankle, and the height and style of your boots. You really got a lot of options!

When you like to combine your ankle boots with a skirt or a dress, you can also go for different styles. If you like to go bare, ankle boots that are close to the color of your skin are the best. Too much of a color difference makes your legs look chopped off at the ankle.

To tell the truth, the key to wearing ankle boots is elongating your legs, while showing off the shape of the shoe! And there're no better people to show you the newest trends in shoe fashion than the following fashion bloggers. From sporty to edgy, the best fall ankle boot combo's:
